Bernadette McBride is a writer, artist, teacher, and editor. She taught creative writing and literature at Temple University for many years, was a poet in residence at DeSales University, and one of three advisors during the launch of DeSales’ MFA program, and is a current faculty member in the English Department of Bucks County Community College. She continues teaching in writing workshops as well as helping writers strengthen their work through private coaching and editing. Author of four four full-length poetry collections, she was long-time poetry editor for the Philadelphia-based Schuylkill Valley Journal and is a Pennsylvania Poet Laureate for Bucks County. She won second-place in the International Ray Bradbury Writing Award for poetry, is a three-time Pushcart Prize nominee, and runner-up for the Robert Fraser Poetry Prize, among other writing honors. Her work is widely published in literary journals and anthologies, including in the UK, Canada, and on PRI’s The Writer’s Almanac. She is a founding member of the poetry improv troupe, No River Twice.


Working in watercolor and pen-and-ink, acrylic, oil, and mixed media, she has shown her paintings in many settings, including art shows, shop galleries, and art festivals across five states. She worked full-time for many years on a large body of work in Celtic design comprised of historical and mythological subjects, castles, two illuminated uncial alphabets, featuring both male and female themes, and commissioned pieces for private clients and businesses. Her designs sold in both the U.S. and in Ireland. Many pieces have been published as both cover art for journals and other publications, as well as complementary illustrations for print pieces. Her current work includes historic public buildings and commissioned paintings of private homes, commemorative images of campus school buildings, and various themes on nature, people, and whatever inspires…
